Commissioned Mural for the Mediamonks Electric Office
My office sent out a competition for a commissioned mural on a spot in the front parking lot of the office building. Many talented coworkers submitted and mine was chosen to be executed.

Inspiration
The Strategy
My inspiration came from a colorful album cover of a band that I listen to quite often. The style is similar to what I know I can do as an illustrator. After researching the history of Venice Beach, CA where the office is located, I realized that I could use the elements from my research and abstractly draw them in this similar style I was inspired by.
First Pass
My design was chosen! Our creative director liked the meaning behind my design and pop of color that it would bring to our office. Next steps would be to hand control over to me in order to bring the design to life.
The Canvas
Lightening Bolt Rearrangement
The original size of the mural correlated with the outside wall rectangular mural. Instead, I was requested to resize and refit my design for either the lightening bolt on the ground of the parking lot leading into the building, or the basketball mural.
Mapping Out the Canvas
Once moved into LA, I spent time at the closed COVID office measuring and taping out the area on the ground for the lightening bolt design.
Change of Plans… Again!
The final plan had been decided to use the space underneath the basketball hoop.
Getting to Work
Politely I asked my team if anyone would mind helping me execute the painting part of this project. I was left to run this large scale project on my own, and knew I would need a lot more hands in order to get this done within a decent amount of time.
Outside of work I collected a fierce group to help me, starting with borrowing a projector from a friend and tracing the outline of the final design above on the existing wall.
Final Thoughts
With help from my team and many hours, we pulled it off and the mural is alive and glowing outside of our office. The colorful shapes representing symbols of Venice and its history create life for our office that is architecturally Bauhaus modern and sleek. The wall tells the playful story of Venice culture, past and present. Representing why our team has such impact for creativity in this area by the ocean.
